    From Muscat to the mountains

    Exploring Muscat & Jebel Shams

    Your journey begins in the capital with visits to some of Muscat’s most iconic sights: the majestic Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, the architectural gem of the Royal Opera House, and the lively Muttrah Corniche, where souqs, coastal forts, and museums bring the city’s maritime heritage to life. The next day, you leave the coast and drive inland through the fertile Batinah plain. You’ll stop at the impressive Nakhal Fort and the historic fortress of Rustaq. Then it’s up into the mountains to Jebel Shams, the highest point in Oman where fresh mountain air and breathtaking canyon views await. Overnight stay in the mountains.

    Canyons, mud villages and fortresses

    Balcony Walk, Al Hamra and Bahla Fort

    Your day begins high up in the mountains of Jebel Shams with a spectacular hike along the Balcony Walk (W6) – a narrow trail offering breathtaking views into the “Grand Canyon of Arabia,” ending at an abandoned mountain village. After descending, visit the mud-brick houses of Al Hamra and the lush terrace gardens of Misfat al Abriyyin, where traditional falaj irrigation channels nourish date and banana plantations. The next day, explore the impressive Bahla Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the beautifully restored Jabreen Castle with its intricately painted wooden ceilings. Finish with an interactive journey through Oman’s past and future at the Oman Across Ages Museum. Overnight stay in Nizwa.

    Nizwa and the Wahiba Desert

    Discover Nizwa, Jebel Akhdar and Wahiba Sands

    Your day starts at Nizwa’s bustling souq, where silver craftsmanship, spices, and Omani traditions come together. If it’s Friday, don’t miss the famous goat market, a lively scene full of shouting, bargaining, and cultural color. Afterwards, visit Nizwa Fort, where the tower offers sweeping views over the city and its surrounding palm groves. You’ll then continue to the green village of Birkat Al Mouz, before ascending into the cool heights of Jebel Akhdar. The next day, hike the scenic “Three Village Walk,” passing traditional mountain villages, rose gardens, and terraced fields. Then descend into the golden dunes of the Wahiba Sands, where an exhilarating sunset safari awaits. You’ll spend the night in a stylish desert camp, under a blanket of stars.

    Wadis, Sur and the turtle beach

    Your journey leads you to the east coast, where you can swim and relax in the turquoise waters of Wadi Bani Khalid, one of Oman’s most beautiful oases. You’ll then continue to Sur, known for its traditional dhow shipyards where wooden boats are still handcrafted today. Overnight stay in the coastal village of Tiwi, nestled between mountains and sea. The next day, hike through the dramatic gorge of Wadi Shab, discovering hidden pools and a cave waterfall. Afterwards, explore the quieter and greener Wadi Tiwi, where ancient stone villages and banana plantations shape the landscape. In the evening, a magical experience awaits: on a guided night walk at Ras Al Jinz beach, you may witness sea turtles nesting or hatchlings making their way to the ocean.     Following the remote eastern coastline, you’ll reach the dazzling white Sugar Dunes of Al Khaluf, where soft, powdery sand meets turquoise waters in one of Oman’s most surreal landscapes. You’ll continue to the port town of Ad Duqm for an overnight stay. The next day, travel further south through untouched nature. Stop at the dramatic gorge of Wadi Ash Shuwaymiyah, take in the rugged sea cliffs near Hasik, and pause in the quiet fishing village of Saadha. Your final destination is Mirbat, a historic coastal town full of charm and character.

    Dhofar’s green side and secluded beaches

    Wadi Darbat, Jebel Samhan and Fazayah Beach

    Explore the lush oasis of Wadi Darbat near Salalah, where streams, waterfalls, and grazing camels create an almost tropical atmosphere. Then head up to the scenic viewpoint at Jebel Samhan for sweeping views of the mountains and coastline. In the surrounding valleys, you’ll find mysterious baobab trees. This is unique to this part of Arabia. The next day, travel to the west coast to visit Mughsail Beach, where crashing waves and natural blowholes put on a dramatic display. Continue along the winding road to the steep cliffs of Jebel Shaat, before descending into the quiet coves of Fazayah Beach. Return to Salalah for your overnight stay.

It’s the perfect way to end your journey. In the early evening, fly back to Muscat for an overnight stay. The next morning, a boat takes you to the breathtaking Daymaniyat Islands. This is a protected marine reserve filled with coral reefs and vibrant underwater life. Snorkel with sea turtles or simply enjoy the peaceful natural surroundings.
