Village in a palm oasis at the foot of the Hajar Mountains in Oman

Holidays in Oman | | Privately planned, with English-speaking advice and support on the ground

Desert, wadis with turquoise water, mountain villages at 2,000 metres, forts, souks and more than 3,000 kilometres of coastline: Oman packs more variety into a week than most destinations offer in a month. And it is safe, welcoming and calm, without mass tourism.

We plan every Oman holiday privately and to measure: as a tour of 7 to 18 days, as a beach holiday, in a luxury edition or as a self-drive trip. Lars and Franziska know the country from the inside, and our local partner is reachable day and night while you travel.

Why Oman for your holiday

Four reasons our travellers come back from Oman saying they should have gone sooner.

  • Safe and relaxed

Oman is one of the safest countries in the Middle East, with no travel warning for the tourist regions. Low crime, friendly people and traffic that is calmer than at home.

  • Variety within short distances

From Muscat you are in the mountains in two hours, in the desert in three and at a wadi for a swim in an hour and a half. You do not have to choose between nature, culture and beach.

  • Close, without jet lag

Around seven hours’ flying from Europe, direct or with one stop, and a time difference of only two to three hours. You are fit enough to explore the city on day one.

  • Winter sun from October to April

When it is grey at home, Oman has 25 to 30 degrees and blue skies. Exactly the months when a holiday does the most good.

Which Oman holiday suits you?

The classic Oman holiday: Muscat, the Wahiba Sands, Nizwa and Jebel Shams in a week, or with Wadi Shab, the Daymaniyat Islands, Jebel Akhdar and Salalah in two to three weeks. See our four sample itineraries or have your own route designed.

We do not sell beach-only packages, because you would miss the best of the country. What we do offer is the combination our travellers choose most: seven to ten days touring, then three to four days by the sea. Where and when, you can read in our article on a beach holiday in Oman.

For those who like comfort: the luxury tour with 5-star resorts, luxury desert camps and a private driver-guide. For those who want freedom: the self-drive tour, driving yourself with a day-by-day programme and help at a distance.

Frequently asked questions about holidays in Oman

When is the best time for an Oman holiday?

October to April: 25 to 30 degrees by day, dry and pleasant in the desert, the mountains and by the sea. From May to September the north gets very hot. Salalah in the south is special in summer, when the khareef turns the landscape green, but the sea is rough then.

Do I need a visa for Oman?

Most European nationalities, including British, Irish and EU passport holders, enter visa-free for stays of up to fourteen days. For longer stays you apply for an e-visa online beforehand. Your passport must be valid for at least six months on arrival. Check the current rules shortly before departure; we help you with that.

Is Oman safe?

Yes. There is no general travel warning for Oman; several governments advise against travel only to the Musandam exclave and the immediate Yemen border area. Our routes stay within the other regions. Read our article on the current situation for details.

How much does an Oman holiday cost?

The itinerary pages show guide prices per person based on two travellers, excluding flights. The final price depends on length, season, accommodation and whether you drive yourself or travel with a driver-guide. You always receive a no-obligation proposal with a transparent price.

Is Oman suitable for a family holiday?

Very much so. Short driving distances, swimming in wadis, camels and sand dunes, turtles at Ras al Jinz and hotels with pools. We plan the pace around the children’s ages and choose family rooms or connecting rooms.

Can I combine a tour with beach days?

Yes, that is the most popular format: seven to ten days touring followed by three to four days by the sea in Muscat, on the coast near Tiwi or Sur, or in Salalah. Because every trip is private, you decide the split.
