Which Oman tour is right for you?
In short: with a week, the 7-day tour covers Muscat, a night in the Wahiba Sands and the mountains around Nizwa. Ten days add the coast at Sur, Wadi Tiwi and a snorkelling day at the Daymaniyat Islands: our most popular tour. To include Salalah and the south, choose 14 or 18 days. Every tour is private: you drive yourself in an insured 4x4 or travel with an Omani driver-guide.

Self-drive or driver-guide?
Self-drive is the most affordable way to see Oman and gives you the most freedom. You get an insured 4x4, which you need because only four-wheel drives may go up to the Jebel Akhdar plateau, plus a day-by-day programme with routes and driving times. Every hotel and camp is booked. You don’t drive into the Wahiba dunes yourself: the camp picks you up at the edge. There is more on our Oman self-drive tour page.
With an Omani driver-guide you watch the landscape rather than the road and have nothing to organise along the way. Our guides speak English. The surcharge grows with the length of the trip, from €750 per person on the 7-day tour to €2,200 on the 18-day tour. You can also mix both, for example driving yourself along the coast and in the mountains, with a driver for the desert days.
When does Salalah fit in?
Salalah lies around 1,000 kilometres south of Muscat, a 90-minute flight or a 10 to 12 hour drive away. That is why the south only features on the two longest tours. On the 14-day tour you fly to Salalah on the evening of day 10 and end your trip there after three days in Dhofar. On the 18-day tour you travel overland along the east coast via Duqm and Mirbat, then fly back to Muscat. With 7 or 10 days, we suggest staying in the north.
Best time for a tour of Oman
The best time for a tour of Oman is October to April, and it is most pleasant from November to March, with daytime temperatures of 25 to 30 °C. In summer the north reaches around 40 °C, so check the climate month by month in our guide to the best time to visit Oman before you choose your dates.
