How much does a trip to Oman cost? Tour price, flights and extras per person

By Lars Janssen · Co-Founder & CEO ·

How much does a trip to Oman cost? The honest answer: for a ten-day private tour, all in, plan on roughly €2,450 per person, and for two weeks including the south on about €3,200. That figure has two parts. The first is the price of the tour itself, with us from €999 per person for seven days. The second is everything an Oman holiday adds on top of the tour price: the flight, a visa if you stay longer than 14 days, travel insurance, meals that are not part of the itinerary, fuel, tips and a SIM card. This article puts both parts side by side, with sources and with three example budgets, so you know what a trip to Oman costs before you ask for a proposal.

In short

  • Tour: our private tours start at €999 (7 days), €1,449 (10 days), €2,099 (14 days) and €2,799 (18 days) per person based on two sharing, including accommodation and activities as per the itinerary. Flights are not included.
  • Flight: Oman Air flies non-stop from London Heathrow to Muscat. Budget roughly £450 to £730 return per person (about €535 to €860); December is the most expensive month.
  • Visa: British and most European passport holders enter visa-free for up to 14 days. Longer stays need an eVisa; the current fee appears in the official eligibility wizard, and media reports last cited OMR 20, about €46, for the one-month visa.
  • On the ground: food, fuel and a SIM card are inexpensive in Oman. A meal in a simple restaurant is around €4.60, a litre of petrol about €0.55.
  • Currency: 1 Omani rial (OMR) is about €2.32 or £1.97 (rates of 9 October 2026).

What our Oman tours cost

Every tour on GoTravelOman.com is a private tour: you travel with your own party, on your own dates, and the route is built around your wishes. The guide prices below are per person based on double occupancy, including accommodation and activities as per the itinerary, daily breakfast and dinner on selected days. Flights are not included.

The guide prices apply to the standard edition with a rental car: an insured 4x4 is waiting for you at the airport, as described on our self-drive tour page. Fuel and personal expenses are at your own cost. If you would rather travel with an Omani driver-guide, you receive an adjusted quote. A luxury Oman tour with 5-star resorts and a private driver sits well above these guide prices and is always calculated individually.

Every tour is calculated individually: you always receive a transparent, no-obligation proposal with the route, the accommodation and the final price before you decide anything.

What comes on top: flights, visa, car, food, tips and SIM card

The tour price is the largest amount, but not the only one. These are the items that an Oman holiday adds to the tour price, with the figures we were able to check on 10 October 2026. Anything marked "indication" changes by the day and by the booking.

Flights (indication). Oman Air is the only airline flying non-stop between London Heathrow and Muscat, a flight of about seven hours; Gulf Air (via Manama), Etihad (via Abu Dhabi) and Turkish Airlines (via Istanbul) fly with a stop (Momondo). In April 2025 Oman Air announced it would restore its double daily Heathrow service from October 2025, building up to 14 flights a week by summer 2026 (FBJ). On price, KAYAK puts November as the cheapest month at an average of £453 return and December as the most expensive at £728 return, based on fares from the past twelve months. In the example budgets we work with €650 per person return, roughly £550, which sits between those two averages. Flying from elsewhere in Europe? Oman Air also flies non-stop from Amsterdam, four times a week since 1 July 2025 (Oman Observer), where KAYAK shows December averaging about €722 return, and from Frankfurt and Munich, where Swoodoo found non-stop returns for dates between October and March from roughly €300 to €390 in early October 2026.

Visa. With a British, Dutch or German passport you enter Oman visa-free for a stay of up to 14 days, as the Royal Oman Police confirmed via Gulf News. Staying longer, you apply for an eVisa in advance: for the one-month single-entry tourist visa the Oman Observer reported a fee of OMR 20, about €46, in 2019, and Gulf News quoted the same amount in 2023; the current fee for your nationality appears in the eligibility wizard on the official portal evisa.rop.gov.om. Of our tours only the 18-day journey exceeds 14 days; the 14-day tour comes close, so count every calendar day if you add beach days. Our article on Oman visa requirements walks you through the conditions and the application.

Travel insurance. Take out travel insurance with medical cover and repatriation; see also our article Is Oman safe?. The premium depends on your policy and your family situation, which is why we deliberately quote no amount here and leave this item outside the example budgets.

Rental car and fuel. The insured 4x4 is part of our standard edition. For comparison, so you can see what that item is worth: a local rental company in Muscat charges about OMR 42 per day for a Toyota Fortuner or Prado on rentals of up to ten days and OMR 38 per day from eleven days, including VAT and basic insurance, with a surcharge of OMR 5 per day in the high season from 10 December to 10 January and full cover for OMR 10 per day (Ountravela, indication). KAYAK arrives at an average SUV rental price in Muscat of about $62 per day, around €55. Fuel is your own cost, and in Oman it is cheap: the government has held prices at a fixed ceiling since October 2021 (Oman Observer), and OOMCO lists 239 baisa per litre for Mogas 95 in its October price table, about €0.55 or 47p. A worked example: drive 1,500 kilometres in ten days in a 4x4 that uses 10 litres per 100 kilometres and you fill up 150 litres for about OMR 36, around €85. A valid national driving licence is usually accepted, but some rental companies ask for an International Driving Permit, so we recommend bringing one; see our article on the international driving permit for Oman.

Meals outside the itinerary. Breakfast is included every day, dinner on selected days. For lunches and the remaining evenings, Numbeo gives these averages for Muscat: a meal in an inexpensive restaurant OMR 2 (€4.60), a three-course meal for two in a mid-range restaurant OMR 15 (€35), a cappuccino OMR 1.95 (€4.50) and a small bottle of water OMR 0.11 (€0.25). We work with €15 per person per day. Note that restaurants and cafés in tourist areas add a 4% tourism tax and that 5% VAT applies everywhere (PwC); some hotels add a service charge on top. Because your accommodation is already in the tour price, you will not notice the 5% municipal tax on hotel stays.

Tips. Oman has no fixed tipping culture. In casual restaurants no tip is expected, in better restaurants a small tip is optional, with taxis rounding up is enough, and for private drivers and guides you decide for yourself what to give, especially on day trips (4stogo). Reliable fixed amounts do not exist; tip in cash and in rials.

SIM card. Ooredoo's tourist plans start at OMR 5 for a ten-day stay, and there is a 20-day plan with unlimited data and local minutes for OMR 20 (Ooredoo), so €12 to €46.

Currency. The Omani rial has been pegged to the US dollar since 1986 and therefore moves with the dollar. On 9 October 2026, 1 OMR was €2.32 according to XE, or about £1.97 at the ECB reference rate of the same day; all conversions in this article use those rates.

Three example budgets per person

This is how the items add up for three tours, in each case per person based on two sharing in the standard edition with a rental car. The guide prices are real; the other items are indications and worked examples from the previous section.

Two notes on the table. A luxury edition with 5-star resorts and a private driver-guide is not in it, because no guide price exists for that: we calculate it per trip. And every tour is calculated individually, so even for the standard edition you always receive a no-obligation proposal with the exact amount before you decide.

When is a trip to Oman cheaper or more expensive?

Season. The best time to visit runs from October to April; see best time to visit Oman. Within that season the turn of the year is the most expensive: December is the dearest month to fly according to KAYAK, the hotels in Muscat and the desert camps fill up around Christmas and New Year, and the local rental company in the example above adds OMR 5 per day between 10 December and 10 January. Around the holidays we therefore price every tour on the accommodation that is still available; more on that in Oman at Christmas and New Year. Outside the Christmas period, for instance in November, in January after the first week, in February or in March, the same itinerary is usually cheaper, while the weather is just as good.

Booking moment. For the tour itself the booking moment makes little difference, because the price is built from accommodation and activities. For the flight it does: book it as soon as your dates are fixed and choose flexible rebooking terms. For the Christmas holidays the desert camps and the Muscat hotels are the first to fill, so those are the first we lock in.

Summer. From May to September the interior is often above 40 °C. A tour is not necessarily cheaper with us then, because most of the cost sits in accommodation and activities, and you can do far less during the day. We only recommend those months for Salalah during the khareef.

What determines the price of your tour

  1. Length. Every extra day means an extra night, an extra day of car and often an extra activity. That is why the guide price climbs from €999 for seven days to €2,799 for eighteen.
  2. Comfort level. Our tour pages show two levels: "Authentic comfort" with boutique hotels, desert lodges and guesthouses of 3 to 4 stars, and "Exclusive luxury" with 4 to 5-star resorts and heritage stays. The guide prices assume the first level.
  3. Rental car or driver-guide. Driving yourself in an insured 4x4 is the standard. An Omani driver-guide who drives you across the whole country costs more, but then all you have to do is look. On a luxury tour most travellers choose this option.
  4. Party size. The guide price is per person for two people. Travelling as a family or with four friends, you share the car and often a family room, and the price per person drops. Travelling solo, you carry the car and the room alone, and a private tour then costs more than a group tour.
  5. Route and extras. A domestic flight to Salalah, an extra night in a desert camp in the Wahiba Sands or a few beach days at the end: anything is possible, and everything is listed separately in your proposal.

How this fits into our tours

"We often hear that people estimate a tour of Oman to be more expensive than it is. That is why we prefer to put the tour price and the extra costs honestly side by side beforehand rather than surprise anyone afterwards.", Team at GoTravelOman.com · Sister sites: urlauboman.de, omanreis.nl

When you request a tour, the proposal you receive breaks down the tour price: the accommodation, the 4x4 or the driver-guide, the activities and the meals that are included. What you arrange yourself, such as the flight and the insurance, we name alongside it, so no hidden items remain. The 10-day Oman Highlights tour is our most booked trip and the best starting point for a first budget; if you have two weeks and want to see the south, work from the 14-day north and south tour. Lars and Franziska travel through Oman regularly themselves and work with a trusted local partner on the ground who knows which accommodation offers the best price in which month. Unsure about the length or the comfort level? Ask for a tailor-made Oman tour and we cost two variants for you, without obligation.

Practical tips to keep the cost of your Oman holiday down

  • Travel outside the Christmas holidays if your dates are free: November, February and March offer the same weather with lower fares and without festive-season pricing.
  • Book the flight early and with flexible terms; the tour itself can be calculated afterwards at leisure.
  • Pay in rials. Pay locally in OMR and keep the rate of about €2.32 or £1.97 per rial in mind to convert prices quickly.
  • Eat locally. A simple restaurant costs a fraction of a hotel restaurant, and the food is often better.
  • Consider a local tourist SIM: from OMR 5 you have a plan for ten days.
  • Travel as four if you can: you share the car and often the room, and the price per person falls.
  • Compare what is included, not just the headline price. On many Oman tour packages, excursions and meals on the road are extra; in our guide prices the activities in the itinerary, breakfast and several dinners are already in.

What a trip to Oman costs therefore comes down to three choices: how long, how comfortable and with whom. With the guide prices and the extra items in this article you arrive at roughly €2,450 per person for ten days and about €3,200 for two weeks including Salalah, excluding insurance. The exact amount is in your proposal.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the flight included in the tour price?

No. Our guide prices are per person based on two sharing and include accommodation and the activities in the itinerary, with breakfast daily and dinner on selected days. Flights are not included, so you choose your airport and airline. Oman Air flies non-stop from London Heathrow; KAYAK puts the monthly average for a return between about 450 pounds in November and 730 pounds in December.

How much cash do I need for food and tips in Oman?

Food is inexpensive: Numbeo gives about OMR 2, around 4.60 euros, for a meal in a simple restaurant in Muscat and about OMR 15 for a three-course dinner for two in a mid-range restaurant. We work with 15 euros per person per day for meals outside the itinerary. Tips are discretionary and paid in cash; in casual restaurants no tip is expected.

Why does the same itinerary cost more around Christmas?

Hotels and desert camps price the festive period differently from the rest of the season, the desert camps and the Muscat hotels fill up first, and December is the most expensive month to fly according to KAYAK. We do not quote a fixed surcharge because it depends on your hotels and dates; you always receive a concrete, no-obligation price before you decide.
